The first step to a successful financial future is budgeting. This is seriously elementary. If you give yourself $2,500 a month to spend however you choose, you'll find a way to spend it. It's human nature.

Using a budget has been huge for my wife and I. Especially when you are living on loan money, you CANNOT AFFORD to spend more than is coming in. Finances are often the #1 thing that split up marriages. If you're married and not budgeting, you are playing with fire. It's only a matter of time before you and your significant other have a major disagreement about how your resources should be leveraged. If you're single, stop wasting money you don't need- that is loan money and it'll cost you 2-4x the amount you actually spent to pay it back someday. Get budget savvy so you don't have to borrow the maximum amount of student loans next semester. Buckle down now. Create healthy financial habits now. Your future self is already thanking you.

Attached is my personal budget Excel Spreadsheet that I modified for you to plug-and-play. It took me hours to build this spreadsheet, so I must really like you! The numbers plugged in are just place holders. Modify PRN.

Thoughts for the day: Budgeting is the very foundation of financial wealth and freedom. If you can't master your own impulses, forget about investing or getting out of debt someday. It is a paradox- by practicing self-restraint, you will gain financial freedom. Few things happen overnight. Trust in the process. Don't beat yourself up. Here's some thoughts from Dave Ramsey on why it is essential to have fun money in your budget (you'll find Netflix in mine! about to finish Parks and Rec with the wife, then we are starting Stranger Things) You're not in it alone! Merry Christmas.
